Overview
Emotional distress in young children may appear differently than it does in adults. This online training designed for toddler and preschool-aged care providers, teachers and administrators addresses the typical emotional development of young children and stressors young children may face.  It covers how stress reactions look in early childhood and coping strategies which can be implemented to assist children and the adults caring for them.  The training includes discussion, video clips, participant reflection and sharing of ideas. All participants will be expected to maintain an 80% participation rate, complete a proof of learning with a score of 80% or higher and complete a post training survey to receive credit for the training.
Objective

1.1 Understands typical and atypical development and multiple factors that influence development from conception through infancy and early childhood
1.1 h.  Understands the impact of stress and trauma on a child’s development and supports families in reducing children’s exposure to stress. (Aligned with LO1 and LO2) 
4.1 Develops and models genuine, supportive relationships
4.1 f. Practices and models responsive, consistent, encouraging, and nurturing interactions that build positive relationships (Aligned to LO3) 
5.4 Understands the impact of child abuse and neglect, substance abuse, and domestic violence on children and families
5.4 j. Recognizes and understands the importance of increasing the protective factors that strengthen families and communities (Aligned to LO3) 

Learning Outcomes
1 - Participants will describe some adverse experiences or stressors young children face

2 - Participants will explain how exposure to stressors can impact young children.

3- Participants will choose strategies to help young children cope with stressors.
