Overview
This two hour session will focus on assisting preschool children establish and maintain meaningful peer relationships. Discussion will include why early friendships are important and the needed skills for developing friendships. We will examine the WV PreK Standards’ Social Relationship domain and highlight literary resources that focus on friendship making skills
Objective

1. Child Growth and Development

m. Encourages children to value and appreciate each other’s strengths
p. Encourages cooperative work or play

4. Environment and Curriculum
4.1 Develops and models genuine, supportive relationships
e. Creates opportunities for children of different races, cultures, languages, abilities, and genders to work and play together
f. Practices and models responsive, consistent, encouraging, and nurturing interactions that build positive relationships
4.3 Works to effectively promote social and emotional development and prevent challenging behaviors
f. Models positive social interactions, such as friendship skills, empathy, and respect
j. Teaches children effective and socially appropriate ways to meet their wants and needs

         1. Understand significance of childhood friendships/relationships

         2 .Be aware the role of the environment/routines play in aiding friendships

         3 .Be able to name at least 3 activities to foster friendships

 4. Be aware of literacy resources to facilitate friendships
