Overview
Description of Training session: This training will discuss the importance of cultural awareness in an early childhood educational program as well as strategies to incorporate multiculturalism into the program.

a. Recognizes the major differences and similarities between various cultural groups within the early childhood setting
b. Uses knowledge of the cultural characteristics of the Dual Language Learning population to enhance learning
c. Supports the variable rate of individual language development and communication strategies used by children as they acquire the English language
e. Provides a language rich environment using “natural” language and communication patterns to support and develop the vocabulary and knowledge base of children learning English
2.1 Respects families and is responsive to language, culture, family characteristics, needs, concerns, and priorities
g. Takes time to learn about families’ race, religion, home language, family structure, employment situation, other child care arrangements, as well as their values and beliefs about childhood, education, and intervention

Sign in 10-15 minutes prior to the start time of the training but no earlier than 15 minutes.  If you arrive later than 15 minutes you will not receive credit for the training or be permitted to access the training.
Download handouts prior to the training (print if able to do so)
Arrive prior to the start of the session, stay on for the whole training and be engaged for at least 80% of the session. Take notes. Participate in any polls, discussions, and activities. IF unable to use your microphone, participate through chat box.  
Close out of all other applications.
During the session, if you are not currently talking mute your microphone by clicking on the audio icon at the bottom of the screen. You can unmute when you need to participate. 
You can log in on a smart device by downloading the app for the training platform (ex: Go To Meeting, Go To Training, Go to Webinar). You Cannot use call in option only.  You can use audio in conjunction with logging in on the platform app if you are having audio issues. 
There should only be one person per device, if there is more than one participant on a device, only one person will receive WV STARS credit. You will log in with your WV STARS link that is e-mailed to you.  Links cannot be shared.
When entering the training put your full name as it appears in WV STARS. (You can do this by clicking on the three dots (…) on the right corner of your picture. It will give you the option to edit your name or e-mail. 
Please do not attend trainings while caring for children.
Inform presenter of any technical issues.
If you need follow up technical assistance, we can connect you with the appropriate professional development team member. If you are not in the region we serve, we can direct you to someone in your region. 
Be respectful to the presenter and other attendees when typing in the chat box or speaking. 
You must complete and pass the post- test at the end of the session and return it within 72 business hours to receive credit. 
Complete the WV STARS survey after the session to receive your certificate of completion.
Check your WV STARS profile to make sure your information is correct to receive the follow up e-mail that contains the post-test.
