Overview
“A huge part of what a child learns when they’re growing up is social and emotional development. As adults, we take it for granted that other people have emotions that are different from ours, and we can identify what they are, but those are skills that children have to learn” – Tim Schafer.  In this professional development session, participants will examine the CASEL framework and gain an understanding of each component. 
Objective
1.3a. Understands and accepts children’s age-appropriate emotional responses (i.e., crying, tantrums)
1.3i. Recognizes when children show self-discipline and self-control
1.3k. Uses empathy to help children recognize and understand their emotions
4.3b. Supports environmental arrangements that promote social and emotional development (i.e., a quiet space for children to calm down)
4.3j. Teaches children effective and socially appropriate ways to meet their wants and needs
